Jennifer Amezcua

"On behalf of PIH Health, we are pleased to nominate Jennifer Amezcua RN to be honored at the Los Angeles Clippers Nurse Appreciation Night 2025.

Jennifer is a registered nurse working in the Direct Observation Unit at PIH Health Downey Hospital, where she currently serves as a relief charge nurse, primary nurse preceptor, and the go-to expert for all wound care and skin care-related questions. Jennifer joined PIH Health in 2019 and has made significant contributions in advancing patient care, particularly in wound treatment. Jennifer is one of the few nurses trained in ultrasound-guided peripheral intravenous insertions, and this is just one example of how she has become an indispensable resource for her peers as a result of her dedication to providing cutting-edge, patient-centered care.

Jennifer’s patient advocacy is unmatched. She consistently illustrates PIH Health’s “Patients First” vision through her commitment to connecting with patients on a personal level—always listening to their concerns, offering reassurance, and providing support. Jennifer creates an environment where patients feel valued and comforted during vulnerable times. Families often praise her for her compassionate approach, excellent customer service, and professionalism.

Beyond her clinical expertise, Jennifer is a pillar of support and inspiration for her colleagues. She actively participates in hospital committees, mentors new staff, and leads quality improvement initiatives. Her collaborative spirit and willingness to assist others, no matter the challenge, underscore her role as a team player and leader. Her leadership shines as chair of the Partnership Council, which is a governing body within the hospital created to allow a formal gathering for shared decision-making. The Partnership Council is comprised of frontline staff from each department who are responsible for working together to continuously improve the performance of their unit. Under her guidance as Partnership Council Chair, her team has achieved remarkable milestones. For example, the PIH Health Direct Observation Unit was selected to present at the Association of California Nurse Leaders Conference for the first time—an accomplishment that highlights her ability to elevate her team and drive professional growth.

Jennifer’s positive attitude and grace under pressure inspire those around her, making her a true asset to PIH Health and a shining example of what it means to be a nurse. Her contributions go beyond bedside care, embodying the highest standards of nursing and serving as a role model for her peers.

We strongly recommend Jennifer Amezcua for this recognition. Her dedication, skill, and compassion distinguish her as an exceptional healthcare professional who will continue to inspire and impact the PIH Health community. It is our hope that she will be recognized for being an outstanding nurse by the LA Clippers."

Jeri Ford

Nurse Jeri is a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit nurse in Los Angeles, California. She began her career in Indianapolis working on the pediatric transplant unit. After a short 1.5 years, she began her travel nursing career. She was a travel nurse for 10 years working at over 10 children's hospitals across the country and spanning multiple pediatric specialties. She loves mentoring new travel nurses and providing insider tips. She is an ambassador for Trusted Health hosting meetups and events and assisting their social media team. In 2019, Jeri co-founded a private baby nursing company Baby Whisperers. The company helps match new parents with actual Registered Nurses to provide in-home help and education. The company strives to empower new parents and teach infant care that many parents do not receive in the hospital. She is an advocate for nurses, children, and loves to travel!

Lily Chimenti

"Nurses are already heroes, and even among them, Lily Chimenti is a very special standout. Lily has worked as an oncology nurse for many years and has now recently begun working as a school nurse in an elementary school. She worked in oncology all through Covid and used to have patients telling her that if it was going to be the end of their life, they were blessed that they got to be taken care of by Lily.

With all of the trauma of the pandemic, Lily never gave up. With a lot of grief and death around her she always found a way to make her patience laugh and smile. This is a huge gift that she has.

She went out of her way to make content for fellow nurses to give advice about burnout, which can so easily happen, and spent time striving to help others reach peace in a very stressful and demanding job.

I have also seen her in many public settings, where she was off the clock, but someone needed medical attention, and she sprung right to it. This range is from emergencies to small cuts and scrapes. She carries a first aid kit with her everywhere she goes as well as a contagious and inspiring smile and spirit.

This is a very special human being who deserves any recognition available for her selfless and fearless dedication to her fellow human beings."

Lynn Anderson

She’s my mother and she was the best nurse. She had many nursing jobs and would spend time with me and my sister even though she was tired. She loved working as a nurse until she got cancer, which made her need to retire from nursing to take care of her health. Cancer didn’t defeat her; it only made her strong. I’m a proud daughter to be following in her footsteps to become a nurse as well.

Vanessa Benavides

I would like to nominate Vanessa Benavides, RN. While working at the hospital, Vanessa thought of a solution for not only hospitals but nurses to provide staffing. The Go RN app was thought of while in an UBER to provide staffing support. The company went live in 2016 and absolutely skyrocketed in 2020 when they answered the call from the Mayor in Los Angeles to provide staffing to over 96 sites. These sites provided shelter to the most vulnerable and homeless in LA County.

Awards and Prizes:

  • The nurse with the most votes will be honored on the court!
  • The nurse winner will each receive 2 game tickets, courtesy of Nurse.org, a pair of Clove shoes, and a prize bundle from NuWest!
