Learn about our nurse honoree, Jennifer Amezcua:

"On behalf of PIH Health, we are pleased to nominate Jennifer Amezcua RN to be honored at the Los Angeles Clippers Nurse Appreciation Night 2025.

Jennifer is a registered nurse working in the Direct Observation Unit at PIH Health Downey Hospital, where she currently serves as a relief charge nurse, primary nurse preceptor, and the go-to expert for all wound care and skin care-related questions. Jennifer joined PIH Health in 2019 and has made significant contributions in advancing patient care, particularly in wound treatment. Jennifer is one of the few nurses trained in ultrasound-guided peripheral intravenous insertions, and this is just one example of how she has become an indispensable resource for her peers as a result of her dedication to providing cutting-edge, patient-centered care.

Jennifer’s patient advocacy is unmatched. She consistently illustrates PIH Health’s “Patients First” vision through her commitment to connecting with patients on a personal level—always listening to their concerns, offering reassurance, and providing support. Jennifer creates an environment where patients feel valued and comforted during vulnerable times. Families often praise her for her compassionate approach, excellent customer service, and professionalism.

Beyond her clinical expertise, Jennifer is a pillar of support and inspiration for her colleagues. She actively participates in hospital committees, mentors new staff, and leads quality improvement initiatives. Her collaborative spirit and willingness to assist others, no matter the challenge, underscore her role as a team player and leader. Her leadership shines as chair of the Partnership Council, which is a governing body within the hospital created to allow a formal gathering for shared decision-making. The Partnership Council is comprised of frontline staff from each department who are responsible for working together to continuously improve the performance of their unit. Under her guidance as Partnership Council Chair, her team has achieved remarkable milestones. For example, the PIH Health Direct Observation Unit was selected to present at the Association of California Nurse Leaders Conference for the first time—an accomplishment that highlights her ability to elevate her team and drive professional growth.

Jennifer’s positive attitude and grace under pressure inspire those around her, making her a true asset to PIH Health and a shining example of what it means to be a nurse. Her contributions go beyond bedside care, embodying the highest standards of nursing and serving as a role model for her peers.

We strongly recommend Jennifer Amezcua for this recognition. Her dedication, skill, and compassion distinguish her as an exceptional healthcare professional who will continue to inspire and impact the PIH Health community. It is our hope that she will be recognized for being an outstanding nurse by the LA Clippers."
