Nurse Blasts Hinge Match Who Asked for Adderall Prescription—Here's How She Responded

In a recent TikTok video  with over 100K views,  a nurse practitioner shared her unsettling experience with a match on the dating app Hinge. This incident has sparked discussions about the misuse of dating platforms and the ethical challenges healthcare professionals face in their personal lives.

The Cringe Encounter

Lizze Buchanan, a doctor of nursing practice specializing in psychiatry, took to TikTok to recount an alarming interaction she had on the popular dating app Hinge. Using her TikTok handle @lizzelol, Buchanan revealed that a potential romantic interest had asked her to prescribe him Adderall, a controlled substance commonly used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). She played along with the bizarre and inappropriate request by asking for his birthday and preferred pharmacy. She responded that she sent the prescription, but of course, she did not.

This request, made outside of a professional medical setting and without any established patient-provider relationship, highlights the ethical dilemmas healthcare workers may face when their personal and professional lives intersect. Buchanan's decision to share this experience publicly sheds light on the prevalence of such inappropriate requests and the importance of maintaining professional boundaries.

The Dangers of Casual Prescription Requests

Adderall, a stimulant medication, is strictly regulated due to its potential for abuse and addiction. Requesting prescriptions through informal channels, such as dating apps, not only violates medical ethics but also poses significant health risks. This incident highlights the need for public awareness about the proper channels for obtaining prescription medications and the potential consequences of seeking them through unauthorized means.

Healthcare professionals like Buchanan are bound by strict ethical guidelines that prohibit prescribing medications outside of established clinical relationships. Such requests put healthcare workers in uncomfortable positions and could potentially jeopardize their professional standing if not handled appropriately.

Social Media as a Platform for Professional Awareness

By sharing her experience on TikTok, Buchanan has leveraged social media as a tool for raising awareness about the ethical challenges faced by healthcare professionals. Her video serves as a reminder to both medical practitioners and the general public about the importance of respecting professional boundaries and the seriousness of prescription medication management.
