Marvel's New Nurse Hero Comic Will Give You Goosebumps

marvel nurse comic

The Vitals is a new Marvel Comic that Allegheny Health Network dedicated “to the more than 4,000 nurses and their leaders who proved superheroes are anything but fiction,” reads the comic.

“At Marvel, we tell stories about heroes every day. But this story is special. It tells a story about our everyday heroes – the nurses and healthcare professionals working tirelessly and courageously to save lives.” said Dan Buckley, President of Marvel Entertainment. “Along with AHN, we are honored to help tell these stories, which we dedicate to the real heroes who are saving the world.”

The Comic is the result of a partnership between Marvel Comics and Allegheny Health Network. It tells the true-life stories of 8 Allegheny Health Network (AHN) nurses and all their heroic deeds. It’s real, it’s raw and it will make you tear-up.

Everyday Heroes

While we all might be a little sick of hearing the phrase, “heroes work here,” it’s important to remember that in the eyes of your patients, in the eyes of your children, and in the eyes of humanity - Nurses are our true heroes.

Out of all the stress, sweat, anguish, and feelings of defeat this year, a new team of healthcare heroes has emerged. And, the heroism of nurses will inspire the next generation of nurses in Marvel’s new comic book, “The Vitals: True Nurse Stories.” The comic features stories of AHN Nurses’ exceptional patient care throughout COVID-19 and beyond.

Representation matters. We see you. The children see you. And, you know what? Those children who see you working your everyday job - they’re not looking up to Superman or Wonder Woman. They’re looking up to you. They’re thinking, “maybe one day I can be a brave nurse!”

Nurse Pride

“Throughout the pandemic, nurses have demonstrated extraordinary courage in the care they deliver.  They are critical thinkers and patient advocates, delivering high-quality care.  I am in awe of their resiliency as they come to work every day, sometimes not knowing what they will face,” said Claire Zangerle, DNP, RN, Chief Nurse Executive, AHN.

Marvel and Allegheny Health Network want nurses to feel proud.

“We are so proud of them, and this initiative gives us yet another opportunity to express our appreciation for their exceptional work. We anticipate that seeing themselves as real Marvel Comics heroes will provide them a moment of pride at their remarkable work during a truly difficult time for our communities,” Zangerle continued.
