Sylvia Enid Moore

Nurse Sylvia's nomination read, "I would like to nominate S. Enid Moore, School Nurse at Roosevelt High School. I have had the pleasure of working with Ms. Moore when she was the nurse at Eckstein Middle School, with a population of over 1100 students. She is now at Roosevelt High School in Seattle, WA, and it has a student population of over 1500 students.

Ms. Moore is a consummate nurse who has the students' needs always at the forefront of what she does every day. Not only does she have to handle the day-to-day duties of nursing, but she is also responsible for clearing students going on field trips. Sometimes there are six field trips in one day, which could be around 200 students who need to be cleared. While you may not think this is a big deal, so far this year, there have been over 200 field trips.

Roosevelt (along with Eckstein Middle School) is the hub for their region, so that students who had critical needs - asthma, diabetes, seizures, etc., were assigned to these schools. Some years, with only one nurse at each school, the job of Ms. Moore could be insurmountable, yet she perseveres. Another example is following up on students whose shot records were not up-to-date. She is responsible for tracking this and reaching out to the families to make sure the shots records were updated or they were in jeopardy of being denied school entry.

Another example is when we had a student hit by a car in front of Eckstein Middle School two years ago. She was the first responder at the scene and stayed until the EMTs arrived. She was able to provide comfort to the student and give critical information to the appropriate parties. Ms. Moore is the type of nurse who jumps in when needed and wants to be a part of the team, as she values her role in students' education. We know from experience that students who are often absent for whatever reason have a greater chance of dropping out by the time they get to high school. Ms. Moore is also on the SIT (student intervention team), and attends many other meetings concerning students because she has a critical voice.

I know we are in good hands at Eckstein MS and Roosevelt HS (I am now a retired School Secretary) and currently subs at Roosevelt High School, with Ms. Moore as the school nurse. I so believe that she should be honored on the court before the Storm's game."

Lynette Wells

Nurse Lynette's nomination read, "While Nurse Lynette is at MLK Jr. Elementary only PT this year, due to budget restraints, her spirit, empathy, and influence have made a lasting impact beyond the relatively brief time allowed. Interestingly enough, I met her while she volunteered in the school library, where she emphasized inclusion and opportunity.

As a paraeducator supporting scholars with varied challenges, the collaborative efforts of Nurse Lynette truly ensure that no child is ever left behind in service and acknowledgement. She is a silent gem that moves through our school, knowing children by name with endless patience and kindness. She deserves to be acknowledged as she displays excellence in her caring manner for all."

Teri Ginster

Nurse Teri's nomination read, "I am nominating Teri Ginster, our school nurse at Lowell Elementary in Seattle. Lowell is a complex school with a high population of students with IEPs and Multilingual learners, including a classroom serving students considered Medically Fragile.

Nurse Teri is our rock! She is always calm and ready for any and all emergencies. She is an amazing professional who always goes above and beyond - training staff, responding to all student concerns, making sure families in need get their food bags, interacting with students' health care professionals and families to make sure our most vulnerable students are safe and their health needs met."

Spencer Buckley

Nurse Spencer's nomination read, "Spencer goes above and beyond to help the students at Broadview Thomson. As the only full-time nurse, he manages the entire K-8 building! He shows compassion and is never frazzled."

Amy Dong

Nurse Amy's nomination read, "I am writing to nominate Nurse Amy Dong for her exceptional work and dedication as a school nurse at Nathan Hale High School. Over the past four and a half years, Nurse Amy has consistently demonstrated a remarkable commitment to the health and well-being of our students, making a significant impact on our community.

Nurse Amy's expertise in pediatric care and her compassionate approach have been invaluable to our students. She is able to connect with students, providing medical care and emotional support during times of need.

As a Special Education Instructional Assistant, I have witnessed firsthand Nurse Amy's ability to make a critical life-saving decision. One notable instance involved a student experiencing anaphylaxis. Nurse Amy took swift and decisive actions in recognizing the severity of the situation and immediately seeking emergency medical assistance were instrumental in ensuring the student's safety. Her calm demeanor and professionalism during such high-pressure moments are truly commendable.

Additionally, my own child has been served by Nurse Amy. She was diligent in ensuring all necessary paperwork from doctors was completed and submitted, and that medications were properly managed and available at school. All of my child's teachers were made aware of her diagnosis and were given proper training on administering the medication should the need arise.

Nurse Amy is an excellent communicator in addition to her clinical knowledge and skills. She has been instrumental in communicating safety messages and training to foster a safe and supportive environment for our school community. Her efforts have improved individual health outcomes and have strengthened our school's overall health.

Nurse Amy is an outstanding high school nurse whose humility, dedication, and expertise are a valuable asset to the Nathan Hale community. I wholeheartedly nominate her to be recognized at Seattle Storm's Nurse Appreciation."

Meagan Cronkite

Meagan cares for her patients as if they were her own family members. She is compassionate, always has a smile on her face, and is such an amazing nurse.
