The carjacking comes despite a significant decline in such crimes across Detroit. However, incidents like this one serves as a reminder that the threat has not been eliminated.

Nurses and Workplace Violence
A 2026 Nurse.org survey found that 27% of nurses were physically assaulted at work in the past year, with 4% facing weapon-related threats. Additionally, 34% of nurses reported not feeling safe from violence in their workplace.
Perhaps most concerning, only 54% of nurses who experienced violence formally reported it to their employer. Among those who did report, 40% said no action was taken.
School nurses, who often work alone and travel between buildings, can be especially vulnerable. Unlike hospital settings, which may have security personnel and controlled access points, school environments may offer fewer protections for staff working outside the building.
If you witness or experience a crime, contact local law enforcement immediately. In Detroit, tips can be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
