Susan Davis is the founder of RescueRN and creator of two training programs, CodePRep™ and RXN Ready™. Susan and her team recognized an alarming gap in healthcare workers’ training when it comes to emergency response preparedness. Through their three core principles of evidence-based practice, hands-on simulation, and confidence-based certification, RescueRN bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world emergency response readiness.

The awkward feeling in the room…

“Code Blue practice was the number one most requested educational intervention by nurses worldwide.”
—Susan Davis on the Club Nurse Podcast

Susan reflects on what the energy in the room would feel like when she responded to a Code Blue in the hospital setting. She describes the palpable discomfort and how she did not like that feeling, nor did anyone else.

It became obvious that nurses and other healthcare professionals were receiving the appropriate certifications that provided them with a piece of paper stating they were qualified for two years to deliver basic or advanced life support, yet many still felt unprepared when facing real-life emergency situations.

This culture ultimately led hospital systems to rely on critical care or emergency response teams arriving at a Code Blue before life-saving interventions had begun in many cases. The result was a cycle of hesitation and fear among healthcare professionals, especially those who lacked the confidence to initiate chest compressions or retrieve and use the code cart comfortably. This delay can ultimately contribute to poor patient outcomes, the opposite of what any nurse or healthcare worker wants.

“Cardiac arrest does not care what your job description is.”
 —Susan Davis

How does this program work?

We have all heard the phrase time is tissue. Seconds of response time can be the difference between life and death for someone experiencing cardiac or respiratory arrest—and this is where RescueRN steps in: to give YOU the tools you need to feel emergency-ready, no matter where you are.

CodePRep™ is a mock code training program designed for all healthcare professionals with a BLS certification, providing hands-on experience so they are prepared if and when they find themselves in an emergency situation.

RXN Ready™ is specifically designed for imaging suite teams, empowering them to initiate an emergency response and deliver immediate life-saving measures before advanced support arrives.

Through my conversation with Susan, the main takeaway became clear: when healthcare systems foster a culture rooted in confidence and mastery of the basics, outcomes improve across the board. Healthcare workers feel empowered and competent to identify emergency situations and trust themselves to initiate appropriate interventions, ultimately improving patient outcomes.
