A Letter from Colton
Dear Club Nurse Members,
First order of business, thank you for being here. I am honored to have the opportunity to hold space for you and for all of the guests who are so gracious to offer their time to give something bigger than themselves to the world.
When I first had the idea of creating a space for people to come together, I immediately thought about my fellow nurses. A quick side note: this podcast is not ONLY for nurses. This podcast and community is for anyone and everyone who wants a safe space to come to learn, grow, listen, connect, and challenge their own perspectives/beliefs.
I vow to keep this space safe for everyone. Today more than ever, we need more places to go to feel community and to understand that we are not alone. Many of us face challenges alone and do not speak up when we are going through adversity. I will be the first to admit that I am guilty of this. I will be dying on the inside, but from the outside nobody would know, even my closest friends and family. I want to be a place where you can come, even if you feel like you are dying inside.
This life is hard and challenging, and even more so when you add the layer of working in healthcare. We experience events that are not normal for any human to see, let alone see on a daily basis. We hold the hands of dying people when they are alone in the hospital. We save lives like it is just another day on the job. We witness traumatic events and move on to the next patient like machines without emotional capabilities. I am here to remind you that you are human. You have emotions and you are allowed to process just like any other human being.
Knowledge and valuable information are so powerful, and if you are willing to learn and absorb, you will be shocked at how many tools and resources you can gain from consistently following a podcast. The guests that I have lined up and in mind will nourish your mind and challenge you to look inward at your own life and ask yourself the big questions that many of us avoid: “is the life I am living true to who I want to be?” or “will I look back on my life and be happy with how I chose to live?”
Through my experience as a nurse, I have noticed that many people (patients and healthcare staff) are miserable with their current circumstances, but stay in the situation because they are afraid or comfortable. The outdated thought pattern of well, at least I know this mess. So many people are afraid to see what is on the other side of one decision because of the unknown and discomfort associated with changing it up. Are you sweating just thinking about it? That is okay…we will talk about it!
I vow to show up for you every week and give you my best.
Above all else, I am a human first, before any other title that follows my name.
