Author & CEO Stephanee Beggs on Debrief and Leading Change in Nursing
Bio from Stephanee’s debut book, Debrief: Stephanee Beggs, MSN-Ed, RN, is a registered nurse, educator, and entrepreneur whose candid insights into the nursing profession have resonated with millions. While preparing for the national licensure exam (NCLEX) at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, she shared a spontaneous teaching video that quickly went viral–giving rise to RNExplained, her now multimillion-dollar educational platform.
The Entrepreneurial Gene
Being an entrepreneur was not a far reach for Stephanee. During the conversation Colton had with Stephanee on the Club Nurse Podcast, she reflected on her family history of entrepreneurs—from her parents down to her siblings. Accustomed to the business lifestyle, Stephanee pursued a degree in marketing—seems fitting, right? After putting her marketing degree to use working for Warner Brothers, she quickly realized this was not the path she wanted to continue down. She made an important distinction that this was not “starting over,” but instead using the skills and knowledge she had to transition into nursing.
The Viral Post That Changed Everything
“I was the first nurse to ever be named in Forbes 30 under 30 in Education”, Stephanee states during the interview. How did she get there?
Stephanee found herself on the brink of completing and graduating nursing school during the global pandemic, without anyone to study with—so who did she turn to? Herself. She made study sheets and videos to help prepare for the NCLEX. Bored, quarantined, and seeing the boom of TikTok, she shared her first educational post, which went completely and unintentionally viral.
And from that video, the TikTok fairies came down and started her business, RNExplained….. Just kidding! Stephanee’s entrepreneurial and marketing instincts kicked in. She saw a need and market for nursing education, leveraged TikTok, created an Etsy shop, and continued growing RNExplained from there.
Stephanee is a testament to what can happen when you recognize that your life experiences and transferable skills can help you curate the life of your dreams. When you embrace that truth, big and beautiful things can happen.
