2 Nurse Couples Take on ‘The Amazing Race’ Season 37

Nurses, we know you’re used to adrenaline rushes, quick thinking, and working 12-hour shifts with only one bathroom break. But what happens when you swap the hospital floor for a race around the world? That’s exactly what two nurse teams are doing in The Amazing Race Season 37! Meet Alyssa and Josiah Borden, married nurse anesthetists from Philadelphia, and Courtney Ramsey and Jasmin "Jazzy" Carey, dating nurses from Leland, North Carolina. These four are proving that if you can handle a code blue, you can handle anything—jet lag, crazy challenges, and even the occasional meltdown over lost luggage.
Alyssa and Josiah Borden
Alyssa (31) and Josiah Borden (32) thrive in high-pressure environments. As nurse anesthetists, they’re used to making split-second decisions in the operating room, ensuring patient safety during surgeries. Their ability to stay calm, communicate effectively, and trust each other completely is second nature—qualities they believe will give them an edge in The Amazing Race.
"We love competition, traveling, and sometimes stressing each other out, so The Amazing Race felt like the perfect adventure for us," Alyssa joked.
Their strategy is simple: approach the race like they approach their jobs—work efficiently under pressure, trust each other’s instincts, and adapt quickly to unpredictable situations. In the OR, hesitation isn’t an option, and they plan to bring that same decisive mindset to every challenge on the race.

Beyond their careers, Alyssa and Josiah share a deep love for adventure. Whether it’s exploring new destinations or tackling physical challenges, they embrace the unknown together. "Handling a medical emergency is way more stressful than running around the world, right?" Alyssa teased in an Instagram post, hinting at their confidence in high-stakes situations.
Their strong bond hasn’t gone unnoticed. Host Phil Keoghan praised them, saying, "Very in love, very compatible. There's something pretty special about the two of them as far as the connection that they have."
Courtney Ramsey and Jasmin "Jazzy" Carey
Courtney (33) and Jazzy (34) met at Duke University’s School of Nursing and have been tackling life together ever since. Now, as a registered nurse and nurse practitioner, they spend their days balancing patient care, long shifts, and the unpredictable nature of healthcare. Their ability to adapt, think on their feet, and problem-solve under pressure makes them tough competitors.
"Being part of the competition is more challenging than expected," Courtney admitted. "It really pushes you to dig deep, both mentally and physically."
Jazzy, known for her quick thinking and sense of humor, is confident that their nursing experience will help them tackle the toughest challenges on The Amazing Race. In their daily work, staying calm under pressure and thinking on their feet is second nature—skills that are just as crucial in a fast-paced global competition.
For both Courtney and Jazzy, problem-solving is part of the job. Nursing requires more than just medical knowledge; it demands adaptability, resourcefulness, and strong teamwork. They know that the same ability to troubleshoot in high-stress situations will be key to their success in the race.
Though Courtney was the bigger Amazing Race fan at first, it didn’t take long for Jazzy to get hooked. "I started watching the show and got hooked, and then we started watching season after season," she said.
Now, instead of saving lives in the hospital, they’re racing around the world, proving that nurses can handle any challenge—whether it’s a medical emergency or a high-stakes global competition.
🚨 Spoiler Alert! Race Recap: Episodes 1 & 2 🚨
Both nurse couples hit the ground running in the premiere episode, heading to Hong Kong for their first challenge. Alyssa and Josiah embraced their dramatic side with a Cantonese opera performance, while Courtney and Jazzy tackled a lion dance that required serious coordination—basically a 12-hour shift on no sleep but with more feathers. Both teams finished strong, securing their spot in the next leg.
Episode 2 took them to Osaka, Japan, where they faced a taiko drumming challenge that left their arms feeling like they’d been repositioning a sedated patient every two hours. Alyssa and Josiah nailed it on their second try, then powered through a sumo wrestling task (because dressing a sumo wrestler is just like wrestling a confused patient into a hospital gown, right?). They finished in third place, keeping them in the game.
Courtney and Jazzy had a tougher time with the drumming, but they pushed through, then tackled a mochi-making challenge with the same determination they use to get IVs in tiny veins. Their resilience kept them in the race—because, as nurses, quitting is never an option!
