Nurses Recognized with On-Court Honors
As part of this unforgettable celebration, three outstanding nurses received exclusive on-court opportunities during the pre-game ceremonies.
Here are the 3 nurses who received the most votes and were recognized at Brooklyn Nets Nurse Night!
Makeda Mahlon Mathieson (Captains Huddle)
Mahlon Mathieson, RN, MSN, is a dedicated nurse recognized for her clinical excellence, leadership, and unwavering commitment to patient-centered care. In both academic and clinical settings, she consistently demonstrates strong clinical judgment, calm decision-making in high-pressure situations, and a deep respect for patient dignity and autonomy.
As a graduate-prepared nurse pursuing advanced training in midwifery, Mahlon is particularly committed to caring for patients with complex and high-risk needs. She is known for her thoughtful communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, and ability to support patients through vulnerable and life-altering moments with empathy and professionalism.
In addition to her clinical work, Mahlon actively contributes to nursing education and mentorship, supporting peers and students through teaching, simulation, and clinical preparation. Her colleagues describe her as dependable, reflective, and deeply invested in both patient outcomes and the growth of the nursing profession.
Honoring Mahlon Mathieson at Brooklyn Nets Nurse Appreciation Night would recognize a nurse who embodies compassion, excellence, and leadership in modern nursing practice.
Danielle Francois (Captains Huddle)
Danielle is a board member for PSON nursing school, a child welfare advocate, a certified pediatric nurse, and a trainer. Danielle has precepted new graduate nurses in the acute care setting and also fights for adequate health care for children in foster care. Danielle is constantly pushing the mold and is currently waiting to attend Nurse Practitioner school in the Fall of 2026 to combat childhood obesity.
Margarita Marasigan (Game Ball Delivery)
Margarita Marasigan has been the nurse in the Grammar School since 2014. She loves working in a place where she cares for the community as a whole - the students, families, faculty, and staff. This was a natural transition for her after working as a maternal child nurse, lactation consultant, and childbirth educator. She was also a hematology oncology and stem cell transplant nurse. Her love for her profession matches her love of basketball and sports in New York City.
Each winner received:
-
Two complimentary game tickets (courtesy of Nurse.org)
-
Special on-court recognition for their role
-
Opportunity to take part in a premium pre-game experience (Captains Huddle or Game Ball Delivery)
