Melanie Van Sistine

BSN, RN

Host, Nurse Converse Podcast

Nurse Mel, a Registered Nurse from Wisconsin, began her clinical career in 2013 as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). While finishing high school, she took courses at a local community college and transferred to a University once she had her diploma. During nursing school, she developed a passion for pediatrics while working at a children’s learning center on her campus. Before graduating, she got her taste of the bedside in her role as a Patient Safety Companion (PSC) at the local children’s hospital. After initially failing the NCLEX, Mel passed on her second time around and secured her first position as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse. She specialized in Endocrine (DKA’s), Pulmonary (CF & Asthma), GIGU (Short Gut, FTT & Crohn’s) & Mental Health (EDO & SI).

Mel served as a Charge Nurse, Nurse Mentor & Preceptor during her position. However, an injury to her lower spine required her to step away from bedside nursing temporarily. During her recovery, Mel discovered a creative outlet and pursued a new role that leveraged her nursing knowledge. In 2023, she was honored with Nurse.org’s Nurse Entrepreneur of the Year award.

Today, Mel owns and operates Mel’s Crafty Corner and has a strong social media following, continuing to impact the nursing community and beyond!
