Nurse Attacked By Patient in Nashville ER

Nurse Attacked By Patient in Nashville ER

On Monday, a patient attacked a nurse at TriStar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee with a metal object. Issah Abdallah, 49, was in the emergency room under observation when police were contacted to take Abdallah to the Metro Cold Weather Shelter.

Upon the arrival of the police, Abdallah was found to be sleeping, so the emergency room staff was instructed to call the police back once the patient was ready for transport, according to the report

The arrest warrant states that officers were leaving but a nurse “came running out” saying that another ER nurse had just been assaulted by Abdallah. After the police reentered the building, Abdallah was on the floor with a nurse standing nearby.

According to reports, Abdallah hit the nurse in the face with the base plate of a thermometer. As a result of the incident, the nurse had to receive three stitches in the face.

Abdallah was booked at the Metro jail and charged with trespassing and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bond was set at $10,100.

Following the incident, TriStar Centennial Medical Center released the following statement

TriStar Centennial Medical Center has policies, processes and protocols in place to maintain a safe environment. We have zero tolerance for harassment of any kind in our hospital and when necessary will take appropriate action, which may include contacting local law enforcement, to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all.”

Nashville, Davidson County Criminal Court Clerk records show that Abdallah has a lengthy criminal record ranging from criminal trespassing to public intoxication to disorderly conduct. According to the records, some cases have been dismissed while others required fines and jail time.
