Nurse With a Revoked License Allegedly Used Fake Attorney to Steal $7,000 From a Patient
A nurse with a revoked license is facing accusations of engaging in fraudulent activities, including creating a fake attorney persona and taking advantage of a vulnerable adult.
Allegations of Fraud
According to court documents, Kevin Charles Call, 44, a former registered nurse from Layton, Utah, allegedly exploited a vulnerable adult. Prosecutors state that Call created a fictitious attorney as part of a broader scheme to extract money from the victim, described as “low functioning intellectually.” Call reportedly told the victim he was in legal trouble and needed to pay money to Call’s supposed attorney brother to avoid jail time.
In reality, the phone number provided for the alleged attorney was linked to a car dealership in Las Vegas. Authorities allege that Call took nearly $7,000 from the victim, depositing the funds into his personal accounts.
Just days after police were contacted about the scheme, Call allegedly went to the victim’s house at night, uninvited. He confronted the victim about not answering his calls and took the victim’s phone to unblock his number. According to the charges, Call warned the victim “that if he does not answer his phone, that any legal help will stop and he could go to jail.”
License Revocation and Continued Activity
Earlier this year, the Division of Professional Licensing revoked Call’s nursing license following allegations that he had stolen a patient’s medication while working as a nurse in Iowa. Despite this, he continued engaging in deceptive practices, acting as the victim’s healthcare provider. Call’s behavior underscores the need for more robust monitoring systems to prevent individuals with revoked licenses from continuing to operate in any capacity related to patient care.
