Mrs. Doubtfire Moment

In November 2025, a 57-year-old unemployed nurse from Borgo Virgilio attempted to impersonate his deceased mother, Graziella Dall'Oglio, at a civil registry office. Dressed in a wig, skirt, cardigan, and pearl necklace, he tried to pass as an 85-year-old woman. Think "Mrs. Doubtfire" meets "Weekend at Bernie’s," but without the humor.

His goal? To renew his late mother’s ID card and continue collecting her €50,000 annual pension and property income. However, a sharp-eyed employee noticed his disguise didn’t hold up, and authorities were alerted. When he returned for a follow-up appointment, his scheme fell apart.

A Hidden Secret Behind Closed Doors

The story took a darker turn when investigators searched his home and found his mother’s mummified remains in the laundry room, wrapped in bed sheets and a sleeping bag. Investigators estimate she passed away in 2022, but her death was never reported. Authorities believe the man used his medical expertise to dehydrate the body and slow decomposition, skills meant for saving lives, not concealing death.

Local residents had never raised concerns. Dall’Oglio had not left the house in a long time, and the two lived isolated from the community.

The Mantua Public Prosecutor’s Office has charged the man with several crimes, including identity theft, fraud, concealing a corpse, and providing false statements. Authorities are also weighing the need for a psychological evaluation, given the disturbing nature of his actions.
