Nurse Calls Out Abuser On Stage, Wins Miss Kansas Pageant

In a powerful move against domestic violence, newly crowned Miss Kansas 2024, Alexis Smith, called out her abuser during the pageant's final interview question. A video of her bravely confronting her abuser has gone viral, sparking an important conversation about this pervasive issue.

Smith gracefully and directly called out her abuser in her final statement, “My vision as the next Miss Kansas is to eliminate unhealthy and abusive relationships. Matter of fact, some of you in this audience saw me very emotional because my abuser is here today. But that’s not going to stop me from being on this Miss Kansas stage and from representing as the next Miss Kansas.”

Alexis' Platform: Domestic Violence Awareness

Smith's campaign aims to raise awareness about the staggering prevalence of domestic violence, which affects around 10 million people annually in the US. Her courageous stance has garnered widespread support and admiration for using her platform to advocate for survivors.

Nursing Experience

Alexis works as a cardiothoracic intensive care nurse in Wichita. Smith previously worked as a tech at Ascension Health when she was crowned Miss Wichita, where she spoke about her decision to pursue nursing as a career,
"Nursing is a career path that allows us to continuously grow and evolve, as the medical field is continuously changing. Being able to apply this education to support the lives and vulnerability of others is rewarding."

Smith also volunteers at the Wichita Family Crisis Center, helping victims of domestic violence.
