Patient Attacks Nurse and Smashes Monitors With Metal Toilet Rod

A 60-year-old man was arrested after a violent outburst at Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital West earlier this month, during which he reportedly assaulted a nurse and caused significant property damage.

Assault on Nurse and Hospital Property

The suspect, identified as Jonathan Jones, allegedly became angry and dissatisfied with the treatment he received at the Nashville hospital on November 5. In a fit of rage, Jones broke a metal rod off a toilet and used it to destroy monitors and other medical equipment, causing an estimated $8,550 in damages, according to court documents.

While attempting to calm Jones down, a nurse was struck in the forearm with the metal rod. They suffered swelling and bruising from the attack and required treatment in the emergency room.

Arrest and Charges

Jones was arrested on November 16 and charged with felony vandalism and aggravated assault of a first responder. He is currently being held in Metro jail on a $35,000 bond.
