Moxie Scrubs Launches New National “Thank a Nurse Day” Movement From Miami
Nurses rarely ask for recognition, yet they shoulder some of the most demanding work in healthcare: long shifts, emotional strain, unpredictable crises, and the responsibility of caring for people at their most vulnerable. Now, a new national movement is aiming to make sure their contributions don’t go unnoticed over the holidays.
Last week, Moxie Scrubs, the first direct-to-consumer lifestyle brand for nurses by nurses, marked the debut of the National Thank a Nurse Day initiative with an uplifting celebration at Jackson Health System in Miami. Backed by partners Lovepop, CeraVe, Nurse.org, Skyscape, and yours truly at Nurse.org, the initiative encourages people across the country to take a pause, look a nurse in the eye, and offer a sincere “thank you.”
“At Lovepop, we believe in celebrating those who make the world brighter, and few do that more than nurses. We’re proud to partner with Moxie Scrubs to honor the care and compassion of nurses in our communities. We hope these words remind them just how appreciated they are,” said Wombi Rose, Co-Founder & CEO of Lovepop.
A National Moment of Appreciation, Rooted in Miami
Miami was chosen for the launch not for symbolism, but for substance. As one of the country’s most diverse and high-acuity healthcare hubs, the city’s nurses serve patients from every background, language, and life circumstance.
Moxie Scrubs Founder & CEO Alicia Tulsee says the goal was to begin this new tradition in a place that reflects the depth and diversity of the nursing profession.

“National Nurses Day honors the legacy of Florence Nightingale and the profession as a whole,” Tulsee said. “But National Thank a Nurse Day is about something more personal. It’s an invitation for real human connection, a chance to tell a nurse directly, ‘I see you. I appreciate you.’ It’s not just a celebration, it’s a moment of real human connection. It’s a reminder to all of us to honor the human behind the scrubs.,”
Built for Real Connection, Not Another Holiday
Unlike traditional appreciation days marked by free pizza and social media posts, National Thank a Nurse Day centers on sincerity. The timing, just before the holiday season, was intentional, highlighting that while many families prepare to get together and celebrate, nurses continue working at full speed to keep hospitals and clinics running, without the holidays off like the rest of us have.
The hope, organizers say, is that the day becomes an annual movement adopted by hospitals, schools, workplaces, and local communities nationwide.
Handwritten Moments of Gratitude
For the inaugural celebration, Moxie and its partners focused on one powerful gesture: handwritten notes of appreciation.
Lovepop and CeraVe are donating thousands of premium cards and skincare items, inviting patients, caregivers, and community members to take a moment out of their holiday shopping to write a personal message to nurses who cared for them and their loved ones. These hand-written notes are now being delivered directly to nurses across the country, starting with Miami. They might seem like small pieces of paper, but they carry big emotional weight.
Organizers described the scenes of nurses receiving them at Jackson Health System as “moving and magical,” with nurses in tears after reading words meant just for them.
A Movement Designed to Grow
National Thank a Nurse Day aligns seamlessly with Moxie Scrubs’ mission to enhance, inspire, and empower the MOXIE in every nurse, a mission Tulsee founded the company on after hearing countless stories of nurses’ selflessness that have led to burnout, and the lack of recognition from the institutions they work for, yet they keep showing up for us.
The partners behind the new day hope that the simplicity of the idea will help it spread and shift the narrative so that nurses no longer feel undervalued and instead feel like an essential part of the health systems they support.
These partners are calling on everyone, from major health systems to individual families, to participate. A handwritten note. A moment of acknowledgment. A reminder that the people behind the scrubs are human beings who keep the healthcare system running.
And with its 2025 launch now complete, the movement is officially underway.
