Hidden Camera Found in Duke Health Employee Bathroom, Contractor Banned

A contract employee working at Duke University Hospital has been permanently banned from all Duke Health properties after a hidden recording device was discovered in a staff-only restroom.
Camera Found by Hospital Employee
According to a search warrant obtained by WRAL, the device was found in late April by a hospital employee using a private, single-stall restroom reserved for staff on the seventh floor. She noticed a box of latex gloves under the sink. When she moved the box, she spotted what appeared to be a key fob. After taking a closer look, she realized it was actually a hidden camera.
Police later reviewed the contents and found video of three Duke employees using the bathroom that day.
Another Duke staffer who worked in the same area reported having seen a similar object under the same sink multiple times over the past 3–4 months, according to the warrant.

Earlier Video Leads Investigators to Suspect
Investigators say the same device also contained footage taken two days earlier at a separate location — a physical therapy business — showing a man filming his female physical therapist while she was stretching him during a session.
Law enforcement used a combination of footage from the device itself, the therapists’ customers and surveillance video from Duke Hospital, to help identify the suspect.
Warrant Issued to Search Home
Authorities searched the man’s home in Cary under a warrant. According to the document, he worked as a contract employee for a medical supply vendor "assigned to the area where the key fob recording device was found."
The man's employer searched his work computer and discovered labeled video files, some dating back months. Several files included the first names of women seen in the recordings.
Status of the Investigation
As of June 12, no criminal charges had been filed against the man, so his name has not been released publicly by WRAL. A Duke spokesperson confirmed that he has been banned from all Duke Health properties.
