DreamCloud Psychiatry Wins 2025 Best in Nursing Award in Technology

This is a guest article written by Chris Lee, PMHNP-BC, the nurse entrepreneur who founded DreamCloud Psychiatry

Nurse.org has awarded DreamCloud Psychiatry the 2025 Best of Nursing Award in the Technology category for its DreamCloud Psychiatry App, a solution designed to make psychiatric care more efficient, fun, and user-friendly for telemedicine patients in Florida and New York.

A Mobile App That Enhances Patient Care

Chris Lee, MS, PMHNP-BC, practice owner and founder at DreamCloud, developed the mobile app to enhance patient communication, medication management services, and appointment scheduling for his patients. Rather than relying on third-party platforms offering limited customization options, Chris and his team designed a personalized, branded platform that allows patients to securely message their provider, request refills, and book appointments—while ensuring a seamless patient experience.

A Personalized Approach to Virtual Mental Health Care

While transitioning his brick-and-mortar private practice to become telemedicine-friendly during the COVID-19 pandemic, Chris recognized a problem with commercially available mental health platforms. Patients using these platforms were often pulled into third-party systems and environments that felt disconnected from their provider’s care. The existing software tended to be one-size-fits-all, offering little customization for individual practices and creating a fragmented patient experience.

To make a more personalized solution, he built an integrated app that keeps communication, scheduling, and medication management within the practice, ensuring patients stay engaged with their treatment in a way that feels special and connected.

To accomplish this, Chris worked with Chicago-based software engineer Andres Pera and European UI/UX designer Justyna Gajownik to develop the DreamCloud Psychiatry App, which is built on React Native and integrates a robust tech stack that includes:

  • Intercom Messenger for HIPAA-compliant patient communication and user help articles
  • Mailgun email services for medication refill requests and pharmacy updates
  • Cal.com scheduling technology for easy appointment booking
  • Customized branding and experiential elements specific to DreamCloud

The app is hosted on U.S.-based AWS servers with built-in encryption to ensure data security and is fully HIPAA-compliant. Available to patients as a free download, the app allows for a custom-branded experience while offering a reliable and secure way to manage psychiatric care without requiring multiple platforms or logins.

DreamCloud Psychiatry: Prioritizing the Patient Experience

DreamCloud Psychiatry is a Miami-based practice providing telemedicine services in Florida and New York. The team specializes in medication management and psychotherapy for patients of all ages, with services offered in English and Spanish to reflect South Florida’s diverse population.

Chris Lee, who earned his MSN in Psychiatric-Mental Health at New York University, founded DreamCloud to offer accessible, patient-centered care in a personalized and modern way that fits contemporary lifestyles. By integrating technology that enhances the mental health treatment experience, the practice ensures that patients can communicate with their providers, manage prescriptions, and schedule appointments while delivering a fun, continuous experience.

The DreamCloud Psychiatry App provides a secure, efficient way for patients to message their provider, request refills, and schedule appointments. The mobile app is available on Apple iOS and Android.

Recognizing the Top Nurses in Technology and Innovation

Chris Lee, PMHNP-BC, and the DreamCloud team would like to thank Nurse.org for recognizing their work and for highlighting the burgeoning role of nurses in healthcare technology.

“This award is meaningful because it acknowledges the practical side of technology in patient care,” said Chris. “The goal wasn’t to build something flashy, but rather to create a system that actually makes life easier for patients and providers.”

DreamCloud also congratulates the other Best in Nursing Award winners. As healthcare continues to evolve, nurses are emerging in critical roles that shape solutions and enhance patient outcomes and accessibility.
