Hospital Employee Shot By Coworker 'Ex-Friend' In Garage At Corewell Health in MI

A hospital in Troy Michigan became the scene of a workplace shooting early Thursday morning when a dispute between two radiology department employees turned violent. Authorities say the suspect and victim, once considered close friends, had a recent falling out.
The shooting happened just after 7 a.m. in the parking garage of Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital on Dequindre Road. According to Troy police, the suspect fired five shots, striking the victim twice. Despite his injuries, the 25-year-old was able to identify the shooter before being rushed to the emergency department, where he is receiving treatment. His condition is reported as stable.
Lockdown and Security Response
The hospital went into immediate lockdown following the incident, with staff receiving an emergency alert warning of an active shooter. The message urged them to follow standard emergency protocols: run, hide, fight. Troy Public Schools also heightened security as a precaution.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect fled the scene but was located at a residence in Macomb Township, where he was taken into custody. His identity has not yet been released, but police anticipate an arraignment within 24 to 48 hours.
Hospital Operations Resume
Law enforcement, including agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), responded quickly to secure the hospital grounds. By late morning, the lockdown was lifted, and normal operations resumed. Patients with previously scheduled appointments were advised to contact their respective departments for rescheduling information.
Corewell Health issued a statement thanking law enforcement and staff for their swift response and confirming that hospital operations had returned to normal.
