CNR Introduces the Fellowship in Nursing Economics

Are you fascinated by the intersection of healthcare and economics? Nurses are embracing increasingly complex leadership roles and responsibilities in today’s healthcare industry, requiring expanded knowledge of business and finance. To navigate this dynamic landscape, nursing and healthcare leaders need a strong foundation in allocating healthcare resources and understanding the financial implications of nursing care. They must also understand the relationship between nursing practice, healthcare and workforce costs, and patient outcomes. However, nursing and other healthcare academic programs don’t comprehensively cover these complex topics.

That’s why the Commission for Nurse Reimbursement (CNR) is proud to announce the launch of the Fellowship In Nursing Economics (FINE), a groundbreaking program designed to equip nurses and other healthcare business leaders with the economic expertise they need to lead healthcare transformation.

What Is FINE?

FINE is a unique and comprehensive fellowship program that provides healthcare professionals with a deep understanding of nursing economics. The program features:

  • Expert-led online lectures: Learn from renowned nursing, business, and healthcare economics leaders.
  • Flexible learning: Fit the program into your busy schedule with asynchronous and synchronous coursework.
  • Culminating project support: Receive guidance and mentorship to complete a publishable article or a project portfolio as a culminating project.
  • Health policy advocacy training: Develop your advocacy skills and prepare to engage with legislators with the CNR Legislative Task Force in 2025.
  • Community access: Join the CNR Membership Community and connect with other nursing and healthcare leaders.

Who Is FINE For?

The FINE program is open to all healthcare professionals who are passionate about the healthcare delivery system and committed to contributing to the sustainability of the nursing profession. FINE will provide the economic expertise you need to advance your career and make a real difference in nursing. Candidates undergo a rigorous selection process that considers their healthcare background and future professional plans.

Why Is FINE Important?

Nurses possess clinical expertise and an understanding of patient needs. They can play a critical role in improving care delivery and ensuring the financial sustainability of healthcare systems.

However, nurses often lack the economic knowledge and skills to advocate effectively for themselves, their patients, and the profession. Likewise, non-nurses running business and financial departments within healthcare systems often have insufficient firsthand knowledge of nursing processes and the complexity of care. FINE aims to bridge these gaps by providing candidates with the economic foundation to confidently lead healthcare and nursing transformation.

How Will FINE Benefit You?

Upon completion of the FINE program, you'll be able to:

  • Analyze healthcare systems from an economic perspective.
  • Evaluate the economic impact of nursing care delivery models.
  • Develop and implement innovative solutions to improve healthcare efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Advocate for policies that support the nursing profession and improve patient care.
  • Lead healthcare transformation at your organization and beyond.
