On Saturday, December 13th, Novyrose Mejia, a nurse at Sacramento VA Medical Center, was killed after being hit by a car.

KRCA3 reported that a driver was pulling into a parking lot near the emergency room entrance when they hit Mejia. Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a member of the Rancho Cordova police, said the woman fell and hit her head on the pavement.
Mejia was initially taken to the emergency room at the VA but was quickly transferred to UC Davis Medical Center due to the seriousness of her injuries. Mejia was identified as a nurse affiliated with the UC Davis Health Network and the Sacramento VA.
"UC Davis Health grieves the loss of Novyrose Mejia, a cherished nurse known for her dedication to patients and her family. Her hospital colleagues describe her as hardworking and compassionate — a devoted advocate for those in her care," UC Davis Health said in a statement.
The VA released the following statement: “Our hearts are with her family, loved ones, and all who had the privilege of working alongside her."
Her two sons and husband set up a GoFundMe to help cover the hospital bills and funeral costs. Mejia is described as "a beloved wife, mother, sister, and dedicated nurse." The GoFundMe has currently raised over $48,000 with a goal of $55,000.
