Findley’s PTA to DPT program mixes online coursework and in-person classes, which meet six times per term in the fall, winter, and spring. In total, students attend 18 on-campus sessions annually. 

To complement their coursework, students must also work 40 hours per month as a PTA on average. They also complete 30 weeks of hands-on clinical work throughout the program.

UTMD delivers its full-time PTA to PT transition program in a hybrid format. Students take online coursework and complete 2-3 onsite intensives per semester, which last 3-8 days each. They must also complete four clinical rotations throughout the program.

Most of the approved clinical sites for this program are in Texas, and none are in California or Colorado. The university urges students to mentally and financially prepare themselves for temporary relocation during clinical rotations.

William Carey is a Christian university, offering a 3-year hybrid online PTA to DPT program to qualified applicants. Students must hold a current PTA license and continue to work as PTAs throughout the program. 

In this program, students complete didactic classes online. However, they must commute to the Hattiesburg campus for extended weekends 3-4 times each term to attend in-person classes and labs.

The New England Institute of Technology is rolling out its first PTA to DPT bridge program during the winter term of 2026. Currently pending accreditation from CAPTE, program applications opened on June 17, 2025. 

NEIT plans to accept 36 students in the initial cohort, with a faculty-to-student ratio of 1:18.  The university will deliver the program in a hybrid format, combining synchronous and asynchronous online classes with in-person requirements. Students must attend 3-8 day immersions and labs at the East Greenwich campus during the first seven academic sessions of the program.

Hanover College’s recently accredited PTA to DPT bridge program utilizes a holistic approach to admissions and education. This hybrid program blends online classes with in-person clinicals that students can complete in their local communities. However, they must attend lab immersions at the Hanover, Indiana campus, located near Louisville.

Bridge programs for physical therapy weave PTA practice hours into their requirements. Therefore, maintaining a PTA job is integral to earning your DPT if you attend one of these programs.

Throughout your studies, you can also expect to take various didactic classes (many of which are online) and complete in-person labs, intensives, and clinics. Juggling class and work requirements can be tricky, and good organization and time management skills are necessary to be successful.
