What Is an LPN to RN Bridge Program?

FAQs About LPN to RN Bridge Programs

  • What does bridge mean in nursing?

    • Nursing bridge programs are educational pathways that “bridge” the gap between RN education for aspiring nurses. These programs help nursing professionals or non-nursing degree holders become RNs without starting their education over from scratch.
  • How long is the LPN to RN bridge program?

    • LPN to RN bridge programs vary depending on the school, full or part-time student status, and educational background. Some faster programs take a year or less, but you can expect them to last between 2 and 4 years on average.
  • How are clinicals arranged if I go to an online school?

    • Often, the school will take care of finding and arranging clinical rotations for students who do not already have an RN license. If your school does not automatically set that up, they usually have resources to help you find available clinical sites in your area.
  • What is the quickest RN program?

    • The quickest RN program is an associate's degree in nursing (ADN) from a community or junior college. This program takes about two years for students to complete if attending school full-time.
  • Do I need a bachelor's degree in nursing to get into an MSN bridge program?

    • You may not need a BSN to enter an RN to MSN program. Some programs are for ADN RNs, and others are for students with non-nursing degrees. Thorough research on programs of interest will help you find one that suits your educational background.
