What Are RN to NP (ADN to MSN) Programs?
The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree is the lowest level of education required for nurses to become advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), like nurse practitioners (NPs) and certified nurse midwives (CNMs). The MSN degree also prepares nurses for non-clinical advanced nursing fields, including academia and research.
An RN to NP program allows students to become a nurse practitioner without a BSN. Other ADN to MSN programs similarly skip the BSN step, taking students from an associate-level education to a master's.
While you technically "skip" the step of first earning a BSN, these programs still incorporate required BSN courses into the curriculum. Some even award a BSN to nurses once they complete the requisite courses during the program.
