BSN, RN

Host, Nurse Converse Podcast

Beatrice Nortey is a BSN-RN who lives with sickle cell anemia. Sickle cell anemia is a chronic illness and a genetic blood disorder that causes the red blood cells to not have enough oxygen. When these red blood cells do not have enough oxygen they become “sickled” and get stuck in veins causing a painful “sickle cell crisis” all over the body. Since being diagnosed at birth, she has been around nurses, doctors, and just the healthcare system her whole life, and this is what pushed her to become a nurse. As a nurse living with sickle cell, Beatrice knows what it is like on both sides of the healthcare system, and she uses this to advocate for her patients. She plans on bringing awareness to this disease by speaking about her personal experiences, that is often overlooked in the medical field.
