Nurses: Speak Up About What’s Really Happening on the Frontlines!
Welcome to the fifth annual State of Nursing Survey. Each year, Nurse.org checks in with nurses across the country to understand what’s really happening at the bedside and beyond.
The 2026 State of Nursing Survey Is Closed
That’s a wrap! The 2026 State of Nursing Survey is officially closed. Stay tuned—results and key findings will be released soon.
Last year’s survey revealed some hard truths:
In 2025, participation more than tripled, with 6,000+ nurses sharing their experiences around pay, burnout, staffing, career plans, and the future of the profession, making this one of the most comprehensive nurse surveys to date.
"Over 6,000 nurses shared their real, raw stories with us, and what they had to say about pay, satisfaction, and the future of nursing is powerful." — Nurse Blake
- 69% of nurses said nursing is still worth it
- But only 49% would recommend the profession to others
- More than half (57%) reported feeling burned out
- Staffing remained a major issue, with just 33% saying staffing was adequate
- Nearly 1 in 3 nurses reported needing a second source of income to make ends meet
Those findings made one thing clear: nurses love what they do, but the system isn’t working for them.
