Video: Police Taser Nurse In Hospital Emergency Room

THURSDAY: Shocking video footage shows the moment police taser a nurse in the Emergency Room at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. Nurse Roger W. Davis, 42, is now facing several charges, including assault.

Witnesses Ethan Raymond caught the incident on a smartphone and shared the footage on Facebook. Raymond reportedly told WTVC that he believed the Police Officer was in the wrong and not Davis. 

"When they pulled out the taser, that's when the nurse said he had a heart condition," recalled Raymond. He continued, “She was way out of line, I just know what I saw was the cop that's supposed to diffuse it and instead she was the aggressor from what I saw."

Raymond also stated that the police report is not true - it says Davis punched an Officer in the face. According to Raymond, "it's the cop who hit him in the face, it's the other way around." Raymond continued to explain the incident stating, “he was trying to leave but the woman kept stopping him, it was almost like she was wanting to pick a fight."

The incident

According to an affidavit, Davis’ mother was a patient at Erlanger Hospital’s ER and Davis was being disruptive to the staff who were caring for her. The hospital’s Vice President and other staff asked Davis to leave the hospital, he refused and the police were called. 

Reportedly, when police arrived at the ER, Davis was standing in the lobby talking loudly to his father. When asked to speak quieter, he refused. Police Officer, Sarah Rogers, asked Davis to leave the hospital several times. Davis continued to refuse to leave and Rogers attempted to escort him out of the facility. According to reports, it was at this point that Davis began assaulting the officers and they attempted to use the “take down” technique but, failed. 

Rogers pulled out her stun gun and gave Davis three warnings to put his hands behind his back. The report says Davis did not comply and stated, “go ahead.” He fell to the ground and continued to refuse to comply. They were eventually able to place him under arrest. 

Davis was medically examined after the altercation and was later taken to jail. He is now facing two counts of assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

Erlanger Hospital released the following statement,  

“Erlanger would like to thank our associates, security and the Chattanooga Police Department for containing the situation that occurred on the evening of April 26 and ensuring the safety of our patients, visitors and staff. Because of their diligence, patient care in the emergency department was in no way impacted as a result of this isolated incident,” stated spokeswoman, Jennifer Tittsworth.
