Nurse Wins $100,000 Lottery Ticket After Night-Shift
Berra Sen, 60, a Wake County pediatric nurse, is going to have a very Merry Christmas after winning $100,000 on a scratch-off lottery ticket. Sen, of Holly Hills, North Carolina was at a local Walmart Supercenter on GB Alford Highway doing some last-minute Christmas shopping after a night shift.
Sen purchased a $20 Mega 7's ticket Friday morning. It was her lucky morning.
"It will be a nice Christmas for sure with my children and grandchildren," Sen said. "They are my world."
“When I scratched it, I couldn’t believe it because my birthday is on the 19th and it matched 19 on the ticket,” Sen told lottery officials. “I’m still in shock.”
After getting some much-needed rest amidst the excitement and a long night shift at work, Sen traveled to the lottery headquarters and collected a total prize of $71,016 after required state and federal tax holdings.
According to the North Carolina Education Lottery press release, Sen stated she will use her winnings to pay bills, put some of the money into savings, and use the remainder to have a “nice Christmas” with her family.
The Mega 7's debuted in October with four $2 million prizes and eight $100,000 prizes. Three $2 million prizes and six $100,000 prizes have not been claimed as of December 2022.
