Dad’s Reaction To Daughter's NCLEX Results Goes Viral
PROUD DAD ALERT! Nothing quite compares to the special bond between a father and his daughter - especially when your daughter passes the NCLEX (when she was totally convinced she had failed) and is finally fulfilling her dream of becoming a nurse.
When 26-year-old Shannon Rosen received the news that she had passed her nursing licensing exam, she probably didn’t expect the exciting moment to go viral on TikTok. Viewers have been touched by her reaction and the emotional and supportive reaction of her dad who is filmed standing behind her waiting for the results.
It was her father Mark, who wanted to record the moment, and since the video was posted on March 10, it has been viewed over 620,000 times. Viewers are expressing their own joy at seeing such a sweet and tearful reaction from the Rosens.
According to Mark, “I said to Shannon, ‘Shannon, let's make a video of this, pass or fail. Because this will be something that you can look back on for the rest of your life because this is going to be your life's career. Your kids and maybe your grandkids can look back at this video and they can cherish it.’”
The NCLEX nursing board exam is notoriously difficult and it is common for hopeful nurses to take the test more than once. Shannon has already convinced herself that she had failed the exam. “I was so scared, nervous, already crying before viewing the result, thinking that I failed,” said Shannon.
As for Mark, he had faith that she had passed the test, but he was also preparing himself to comfort his daughter if the results didn’t come out in her favor.
Passing the NCLEX comes after years of formal training and rigorous studies. For Shannon, her path to becoming a nurse wasn’t a straight one. Before entering nursing school, she earned a bachelor’s degree in family and children sciences. Despite this achievement, she wasn’t sure what she wanted her future to look like.

After working, saving, and reflecting on her interests, she decided to take on a new challenge and apply to nursing school. “I have a little bit of impostor syndrome where I don't think I'm capable of doing things that I set my mind to, and then I always prove myself wrong.
It helped that she had the support of her family including mom Heidi, brother Zach, and her sister-in-law. Shannon. In fact, Mark, age 65, took a job at Hershey Co. to help Shannon pay for her education. “At that time, I was pretty much retired and I said, ‘I'm gonna go out and get a part-time job and I'm gonna help you. I don't want you to stress so much on anything else but studying and achieving your goal.’ So that's what I did.”
Now that Shannon has earned her nursing degree from Nova Southeastern University and passed her licensing exam, she is training at NCH Healthcare System in Naples, Florida. Currently, she is working towards becoming a circulating nurse and playing an important role in operating rooms.
“This was just a perfect opportunity for me as a new graduate, to come with new skills, new ideas, new excitement back into the healthcare system. COVID caused a lot of burnout and negative energy in the healthcare system. So I'm hoping that me and my fellow colleagues can kind of bring that back,” said Shannon.
Mark and the rest of her family are proud of her hard work and commitment to helping others. Their viral moment is just an added bonus. Mark shared “I feel happy that I could bring so much happiness to so many people around the country and around the world. We're getting comments from everywhere. So who knew that a 45-second video on TikTok would have such a profound reaction by so many people around the world?”
