“Very friendly co-workers. Additional hours available. Flexible hours. Co-workers are willing to change shifts if needed. Alternate holidays.”
“One of the most positive things about this job is the close relationship we have with our ED providers. It is the reason most of us stay put for a long time. We also get to use protocols, which provides for a nurse that is seeking to be autonomous. We have great teamwork and thoroughly enjoy each other. The pay at this hospital does not justify the work and the credentials we have as nurses.”
“I love my department. Friendly coworkers and a team environment.”

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA

“Management family oriented, extremely impressive teamwork, an attempt at good work and life balance. Decent pay although under-paid by national standards.”
“It has a great culture. Overall staff is very friendly. I feel we go above and beyond to make the hospital visit the best we can for patient and family.”
“Unity Point is a fabulous organization. Enjoy your work, engage with your patients and be discerning when choosing nurses to emulate. It will be what you make of it. There are, like any other employment environment, challenges. Nurse recruitment and retention is a struggle on most units, although there are many nurses that have worked entire careers at Unity Point St Lukes. Small town living, many that grew up and remained in the area for a lifetime. Educational and career opportunities abound for those interested in that track of nursing. Opportunity for advancement certainly exists within the system. I believe that Unity Point truly strives to live by their mission of providing the healthcare we would like to see our loved ones receive. I look outside of the system only for increased flexibility and the opportunity to travel.”
Â
8. Mercy Medical Center - Des Moines (tie)
DES MOINES, IA
3.8 Average Rating 100% Recommended
“It is still a great place to work. Generally speaking the nurses you work side by side with day after day are there to help when things get crazy busy and a patient needs 3-4 nurses to one patient, they step up and help. Caring for patients and their families are cared for as if they were our very own families.”
“It is a great place to start. Everyone is very helpful and friendly.”
“Scheduling, teamwork and the overall professionalism. The environment is good and productive. I enjoy the staff here over multiple units and disciplines.”
