President Trump Shares Message For America's Nurses On National Nurses Day

As National Nurses Day 2025 arrived on May 6, the White House issued a formal statement acknowledging the extraordinary contributions of America's 4.3 million registered nurses who continue to serve on healthcare's frontlines.
"On National Nurses Day, we thank the extraordinary men and women who have dedicated their lives to the critical and noble profession of nursing—providing quality, compassionate, and essential care to all patients," noted Trump's statement, which emphasized how nursing professionals have adapted to meet evolving healthcare demands while maintaining their commitment to quality patient care.Â
The message outlined the administration's "Making America Healthy Again" initiative, which aims to address the underlying causes of chronic disease while ensuring nurses receive adequate support to manage the growing healthcare burden. This initiative includes proposed funding increases for nursing education and practice programs, though specific budget figures were not detailed in the statement.
The statement also addresses the administration's commitment to revitalize the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program: "We are also refocusing Public Service Loan Forgiveness on its original intent of encouraging Americans to enter essential public service roles, such as nursing. Â By doing so, we hope to inspire a new generation of Americans to pursue careers in vital public services, contributing to a healthier, stronger Nation."
The White House statement concluded with a tribute to nurses' resilience and dedication: "Nurses reflect the character of America and epitomize the inexhaustible capacity of the human spirit. Â As we stand at the threshold of our new Golden Age, our nurses stand ready to make America stronger and healthier than ever before. Â On this National Nurses Day, Melania and I join with every citizen in extending our wholehearted gratitude and utmost respect to these invaluable healthcare professionals."
National Nurses Week runs from May 6-12, 2025, culminating on Florence Nightingale's birthday.
