A registered nurse is facing 20 felony charges after investigators say she stole fentanyl from the Ohio hospital where she worked.

Nicolette Gilger, 35, was arrested on Friday, May 23rd and is accused of taking the controlled substance from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Warren, part of the Mercy Health system. According to the Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office, the alleged thefts took place over a two-week span between Dec. 26, 2024, and Jan. 10, 2025.

Facing Serious Criminal Charges

Gilger, who has been licensed as a registered nurse in Ohio since 2019, is charged with:

  • 5 counts of possession of a fentanyl-related compound

  • 5 counts of theft of drugs

  • 5 counts of deception to obtain a dangerous drug

  • 5 counts of illegal processing of drug documents

After her arrest, Gilger was booked into the Trumbull County Jail and released later that same day. Her arraignment is scheduled for June 11.

Hospital Responds to Allegations

In a statement to the WFMJ news station, a Mercy Health spokesperson said:

“Mercy Health’s highest priority is ensuring the safety of our patients, visitors, and staff. As a faith-based organization, we hold our associates to the highest level of ethical standards, as in alignment with our core values. Mercy Health will cooperate with local law enforcement agencies following allegations against a former Mercy Health nurse.”
