Changing a Flat Tire

If you experience a flat tire while driving, remain calm and follow these steps: 1. **Safety First:** Park the vehicle on a flat, level surface away from traffic and engage the parking brake. Turn on your hazard lights. 2. **Loosen Lugs:** Using the lug wrench, loosen the lug nuts on the flat tire by turning them counter-clockwise about one-half turn. *Do not remove them yet.* 3. **Lift Vehicle:** Place the jack under the vehicle's frame at the designated lift point. Raise the vehicle until the flat tire is about six inches off the ground. 4. **Swap Tires:** Remove the lug nuts completely and pull the flat tire off. Mount the spare tire onto the wheel studs. 5. **Tighten:** Replace the lug nuts and tighten them by hand. 6. **Lower and Finish:** Lower the vehicle back to the ground. Remove the jack, then use the wrench to fully tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern. **WARNING:** Never place any part of your body under the vehicle while it is supported only by the jack.
