Medical-Surgical (MS, Med-Surg)

It was an Okay Experience

3
PROS:

The pay is okay for a new graduate with no experience. I had a really awesome preceptor. The unit was very helpful when it comes to questions.

CONS:

Understaffed, gossiped about if you don’t take more than six patients. Management is not very supportive when it comes to nursing needs.

Psychiatric (Mental Health)

It was a good place to work and learn at a fairly slow pace

PROS:

CONS:

Neurology ICU (Neuro ICU)

Three Stars

3
PROS:

The pay is ok. Nursing staff works well as a team. Constantly understaffed so nurse to patient ratios in ICU are generally 3 to 1 with vet high acuity patients. Day shift nursing units are very "clickish". Lots of overtime opportunity and weekend option (2 day work week) positions available. Magnet hospital but does not enforce nurse to patient ratio policy in ICU units. Only 3 recognized holidays per year, so holiday pay is only paid on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day. Parking deck offers close, easy entry and free parking. Lots of self sign-up classes/learning opportunities available which are free to employees. Strict dress code. RNs get to self schedule but due to understaffing, employee requested schedule ends up being "adjusted" by mgmt.

CONS:

None
