Medical-Surgical (MS, Med-Surg)

Horrible

PROS:

None

CONS:

Manager is rude and disrespectful. Not willing on working with you. Worst manager I've ever experienced. Nurses make excuses for her stating "better than the last."

Medical-Surgical (MS, Med-Surg)

Traveler: Think hard before accepting the Colville, Washington position!

PROS:

The staff nurses are awesome and very helpful. The ratios are on par with every other Washington facility. 5 MedSurg. Patients are a low acuity.

CONS:

1. My contract stated I could be called out once a pay period... They called me out every pay period! There was no way for me to take it off my contract before I started. 2. I asked during interview what kind of scheduling they use. The manager stated they use self-scheduling and they would only rearrange 2 of the nights out of the 6 weeks in the schedule only if they needed to. They automatically gave me a 6 week schedule when I arrived, which had 3 weeks with 4 shifts in a row. I have never done 4 shifts in a row and told them that I would do it to not inconvenience them but requested for them to not give me any 4 shifts in a row next schedule. I requested my nights for the next contract working all 3 in a row. The official schedule came out and they moved at least 1 night in each week. They even gave me 1 week of four in a row shifts and several split shifts. When I explained to the manager about my schedule, she stated that they did that because they needed to fill in all the empty gaps from the staff nurses, implying as a traveler it is my job to fill in all the gaps. 3. Bedside shift report. This facility strongly enforces bedside report. My patient was a highly anxious patient with multiple psych history and was not a candidate for bedside report. Oncoming nurse and I introduced ourselves and stated we were changing shift. We stepped just on the other side of the curtain, close to the door and started report. Manager came up to me and said "I know you guys are aware, but we do bedside report here." I stated, " I know, but this patient should not get bedside report." She then asked why and I stated "this patient is highly anxious and her care shouldn't be brought up or she will yell and scream about her care. There wouldn't be a way to do bedside report with this particular patient." She immediately snapped and said "I don't believe that." I said, "well, I have had this patient for two nights and have taken excellent care of her." She said, "I don't care, you are going to need to do bedside report." I asked the doctor after, the doctor agreed with me and stated this patient SHOULD NOT get bedside report. I felt very thrown back by the attitude the manager gave me when I have only spoken to her on two other occasions; which were to introduce myself and to get my badge to work. I was going to extend my contract here because this hospital is a walk in the park, but after the way the manager treated me and everything... I certainly am not. I gave the manager an opportunity to redeem herself, she only gave me more attitude and ended the conversation with no resolutions. Every nurse acts like she is ok but in the same sentence they say "well, she is much better than the last manager." I'm sorry, but that is no excuse.
