Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU)

CVICU

4
PROS:

Busy unit with high acuity, if you want to take care of critically ill patients this is the job for you. Not uncommon to be doubled with both patients on CRRT, or have a "stable" CRRT and then take over a fresh heart after 11pm. Lots of tech resources and amazing RT help, PA's on unit at all times. Can get ECMO experience if the charge nurses like you and nominate you to take the classes.

CONS:

Every single shift is very intense, charting requirements are unreasonable, though they do have Epic. Burnout is HIGH on this unit due to the heavy workload, most experienced staff leave to go back to CRNA or NP school. Very Cliquey with who they allow to take classes for advancement, leaving new people to fend for themselves often. Free charge nurses dont help out staff, see it as vacation shifts.

Happily employed
