Step-down

Excellent

PROS:

The schedule I worked, my coworkers were team players, the facility was clean, the management was attentive to the staff needs.

CONS:

Some days during shift report the assignment would change suddenly-causing a bit of confusion--sometimes even a change of unit working on happening suddenly.

Case Management (CM)

17 years

PROS:

It a small town hospital, close nit community, good doctors that care about their patients, town with a lot of things to do

CONS:

Ratio, not all specialties available,

Emergency Room (ER)

6 years as a RN in the Emergency department

PROS:

Competitive pay, I have some great co workers

CONS:

i feel like I have no advocate in my department. My manager has certain employees she seems to cater to.

Orthopedics

RN Charge Nurse

PROS:

I enjoy working with my Coworkers Pay is good. It is close to my home. My boss is very supportive

CONS:

None

Intensive Care (Critical Care, CCU, ICU)

Intensive care nurse

PROS:

The facility has nurses that work together and it's like a family. The facility is also small enough to get comfortable in knowing where everything is located.

CONS:

Nurse to patient ratio was hard to maintain as turnover for patients was so quick. Going through up to 3 critical patients in one shift is difficult. These patients require extensive prep to get the patients stable and it's very difficult to juggle three patients back to back to back.

Emergency Room (ER)

Working in a smaller hospital gives many opportunities for learning

PROS:

coworkers become a great team related to being a smaller hospital/unit, increased teamwork, flexible working hours, easy charting system, good manager

CONS:

No overtime, often understaffed, no extra holiday pay, old equipment, slow working vital sign machines, not enough PCTs

Medical-Surgical (MS, Med-Surg)

Three Stars

PROS:

It's a lot of work. To many patients per nurse.

CONS:

None

Psychiatric (Mental Health)

Four Stars

PROS:

CONS:

None

Psychiatric (Mental Health)

Four Stars

PROS:

Tough work, high nurse or ratio

CONS:

None

Home Health (Hospice)

Four Stars

PROS:

Apply if you love nursing. Some days are nonstop. But nursing is not easy. It is rewarding. Be able to hold a dying mans hand or welcome a new baby into the world.

CONS:

None
