Orthopedics

No retention incentives

3
PROS:

Friendly and passionate coworkers. Weekend program available with decent differential. Many different areas/specialties. Caregiver appreciation events. Leadership tries to change things for the better of the patients and workers. Pays for bachelor's degree and 1 certification as well as some tuition imbursement for other degrees. New technology/ upgrades. Lots of educational offerings/conferences (mostly paid for). A lot of great MD's.

CONS:

They give you no reason to want to stay (retain staff). Poor staffing; high mandation; large turnover. Pay is average and compared to all other Aurora hospitals- the patients here are the sickest/heaviest/more complex. There should be some difference in pay for that alone because the nursing care delivered can be time consuming/mentally & physically draining/intense and comprehensive than elsewhere. i.e. I have taken a patient transfer out of an ICU from another Hospital to an inpatient unit because we can have gtts/do certain monitoring on the floor when you can't at other places. Not much room to grow professionally unless you know people.

Intensive Care (Critical Care, CCU, ICU)

Nurse Centered

5
PROS:

Orangization puts patients first and cares about nursing voice to improve patient care. One of the few healthcare systems to have serveral Magnet re-certifications

CONS:

None

Emergency Room (ER)

Registered nurse, ER

4
PROS:

Coworkers have great team work mentality and truly care about patients needs. Quick door to doctor experience for patients. Clean environment.

CONS:

Nurse to patient ratio is sometimes overwhelming due to high turnover rate and staff shortage as an outcome. Management does not always treat every employee equally, which can then hinder growth opportunities for really good nurses who deserve it.

Orthopedics

Excellent

5
PROS:

The pros are the friendly staff and interaction between coworkers, and great teamwork between individual teams. Another pro is the help that is provided and the activities outside of work

CONS:

The cons include busy atmosphere, pay, and resources at times

Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU)

Registered Nurse

PROS:

Great staff and managers, good pay, fun city, opportunities for advanacement and movement. Recognized for CV surgeries and approaches worldwide.

CONS:

Roarating schedule

Medical-Surgical (MS, Med-Surg)

Floor Nurse

5
PROS:

People here are great to work with. Very helpful. It's a med surgery/telemetry floor. They use Epic computer system. Best system I've worked with so far by far

CONS:

A lot of the full-time staff are a little green with experience. Turn over with patients but that's because of the type of floor it is. I don't like the way their charge nurse takes your patient away from you and then turns around and gives you a new admission. They need to get rid of the 8 hour shifts

Operating Room (OR)

Busy OR most travelers are not even noticed

3
PROS:

come in do your job leave, work case managable, Starbucks at entrance, each nurse works speciality and very seldom out of that specility

CONS:

Unable to make friends, they go through a lot of travelers

Intensive Care (Critical Care, CCU, ICU)

Registered Nurse- Critical Care

CONS:
