Cool place

4
PROS:

Coworkers, IMC is a great place to start for new grad RNs, learn a lot, different types of titratiable drips, complex wound care at times

CONS:

Patient to nurse ratio, short staffing

Intensive Care (Critical Care, CCU, ICU)

Nights, 12-hour shifts

4
PROS:

Co-workers are amazing! Always willing to help, even though they have tons of things to do themselves. I can't say enough about the fantastic teamwork here!

CONS:

None

Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU)

RN- Cardiac Recovery Unit

2
PROS:

Some of the coworkers are great about helping you when it is possible.

CONS:

Unsafe nurse to patient ratio. They ask nurses to do a lot of extra training on top of working their scheduled hours on the floor. The hospital is continuously trying to add new things to "accomplishments" but getting further away from basic patient care. Very unstaffed and unreasonable orientation period, especially for new grads.

Emergency Room (ER)

RN

PROS:

The coworkers at St. John's were great! I really enjoyed my schedule as I worked days. Also, our nurse to patient ratio would be roughly 3-5 patients, which is manageable with great co-workers.

CONS:

One of the main cons I have with working here is the pay seems to be slightly undercut.

Postpartum (Perinatal)

RN

2
PROS:

Coworkers

CONS:

Pay should be more competitive, management, staffing can be to low, working conditions could be better, management is too money focused and not enough patient and employee focused

Emergency Room (ER)

ER RN/Charge

4
PROS:

Excellent team approach to patient care. Flexibility in scheduling. Modern trauma unit with onsite trauma team due to local school of med (ISU).

CONS:

It's been awhile since I worked here, hopefully it hasn't changed all that much.

Labor & Delivery (L&D)

Great teamwork

4
PROS:

Pay is good, team work is great, and low turnover. Also I love working at a high risk perineal center because we accept transports from outlying hospitals.

CONS:

Management requires way too many extra things from employees in addition to their scheduled hours

Case Management (CM)

Four Stars

4
PROS:

I do not work at a hospital but have in the past. The MCO job is personally rewarding and contractually demanding . I do not work at St Johns but selected it. To complete the form.

CONS:

None

Rehabilitation

Two Stars

2
PROS:

None

CONS:

It's extremely busy for a rehab unit and the patients do not match it being said rehab. The management will say they are there to help but little is done to actually help when the time comes.

Medical-Surgical (MS, Med-Surg)

Four Stars

4
PROS:

St.John's is a good hospital to work at.

CONS:

None
