Case Management (CM)

Case Management RN

PROS:

Professional, Organized, realistic and clearly defined expectations

CONS:

I really have no cons but I had to write 20 words. You can't ask for a better place to work.

Emergency Room (ER)

Best AND Worst of Both Worlds

PROS:

Great values, have a goal of being the best health care provider and are actively pursuing that with what I believe to be true efforts and intentions, fairly laid-back (e.g. you won't get written up for wearing a (plain) department colored shirt instead of a scrub top, don't hart too hard at food/drinks at the nurse's station (which shouldn't ever be frowned up since nurses rarely get lunches or have so much to do that you'd rather starve than try and take a break - this is specific to the field and not this company), management will come bedside to help throughput if it's crazy, generally pretty great about addressing patient complaints by making the patient feel like they are being listened to without trying to condemn or blame the employees (mostly because the patient's complaining are irrational and not understanding of the meaning of triage or purpose of an emergency room, but still, I've heard of some places that simply have write-ups waiting as you enter the office without even asking your side of the story - that doesn't happen here)

CONS:

Management would rather discuss issues that are specific to only one or two people at huddle or via group email than addressing it directly and one-on-one. They're "too nice" in that I feel they don't really want anyone to get in trouble regardless of the issue (except if it came to patient safety or something similar). Not only of the lowest paid nurses in the nation, but the lowest of the three local hospitals. The company was on a raise freeze for 2-3 years in the early 2010s and another is likely imminent despite them saying they "haven't mad a decision yet" (they already know if they will or won't, likely the ladder but want to shush the backlash as long as possible). Cafeteria food is comically overpriced and is not of quality. They aspire magnent status and are HEAVILY pushing becoming certified in your specialty and further your education and yet there are zero incentives. MSN? Zero cents more an hour. Professional certification in a specialty (e.g. CEN)? Zero cents more an hour. BSN? $0.30. The last I heard new-grad pay was approximately $21.46 (2017). No overtime on Christmas. Though only one day a year, it's principle as this is almost inanely offensive. They are cheap in every aspect - pay, when choosing vendors/contracts for new EMRs, when rennovating (and ultimately wasting money because they have to re-do/repair/replace things more often than necessary if they spent a bit more up front. That said, I have NEVER felt as though I was working without supplies or equipment I need to take care of people. I want to re-emphasize this in the cons in the event some people are skipping the pros while browsing: This is not a bad company to work for. I enjoy it here as far as the mission, values, relations and attitudes of management and leadership (great), and the overall "laid-backness" without the compromise of safety and professionalism. The nurses here just don't feel they're paid their worth. And everyone wants more money, but when you are already of the least paid in the country AND in the local region, when you don't even get overtime on Christmas, when there is minimal, if any, compensation for advance your education and degrees, and you work so hard, it's difficult to justify staying. Cost of the insurance plan itself is very reasonable but our copayments have skyrocketed.

Emergency Room (ER)

Great place to work

PROS:

Good employee satisfaction. Competitive pay. Great co-workers and physicians. Good team work. Flexible schedule. Night shift team works well together as well as dayshift team.

CONS:

Needs renovated. Always in the process of construction in the hospital. Located in our community.

Cardiovascular OR (CVOR)

Considerate to all nurses

PROS:

All nurses and techs treated the same. They work with us on our schedules. People are awsome! Beautiful beaches and fun summer activities

CONS:

Lots of overtime. Moral for employees is very low. The pay is not very good. Area dies in the winter.
