Emergency Room (ER)

RN

PROS:

Emergency Department is continually run with minimal nursing and support staff. Its how HCA runs all there hospitals. Nurses burn out and leave. If you are a nurse and looking to work in the ER at Brandon Regional you will be driven into ground. Vast majority of nurses there have been so for less then year with a lot of nurses with minimal experience. They learn what nursing is about quickly. You will hear people complain about nursing shortage. These are same people that drive nurses into ground spit them out and just hire new nurses. Any hospital you work at, not just Brandon Regional if you are busy you will not get break. Every other person in that hospital will get a break including physicians, but nurses are treated like garbage and frequently expected to work without a lunch for 12 hours shift.m. If your are a new nurse you will learn quickly how nurses are treat while managements tells you were working on getting help. You will hear management tell you what you want to hear, but nothing will change. If you are new to nursing or thinking about going into nursing do yourself a favor go back to school and change profession and if you are thinking about going into nursing think again. Talk to a nurse with some experience at the bedside off the record and they will tell you what the real world of nursing is about. I would never recommend nursing profession to anyone.

Gynecology

CONS:

Low pay, poor staffing (very high patient to nurse ratios), hospital has bad reputation in the community, lack of adequate resources, outdated, broken equipment, every area is short staffed including pharmacy and lab so meds aren’t stocked in Pyxis in timely manner, and phlebotomy doesn’t draw blood in timely manner or just outright doesn’t draw ordered labs, even if STAT, lack of overall organization. and efficiency in this hospital, very short orientation period (only 6 shifts), outdated 1990’s EMR system (meditech), lack of support staff so many times nurses are forced to do the job of 3 (cna, nurse, and secretary), poor morale, no BSN diff.. let’s just say this facility sets you up for failure.

Labor & Delivery (L&D)

PROS:

Trying to correctly staff our unit, great team work, everyone is willing to help each other.

CONS:

Lots of new nurses with little experience, the rest of the units in the hospital are a joke with insane pt- RN ratios and lack of support staff.

Medical-Surgical (MS, Med-Surg)

great

PROS:

team oriented, doable work load, great people, had a thanksgiving party I was only there for 2 weeks and all this food

CONS:

only a 13 week contract wanted to be there longer

Registered Nurse

PROS:

Coworkers and I were all stuck working together in a disparaging place. Self scheduling, though it didn't matter any day worked would be a nightmare.

CONS:

High patient to nurse ratios that worsened when I left, high nurse turnover, the union was nonexistent, sometimes worked with no patient care techs on a full medsurg unit, charge nurses were never available during busy times, administration only visited floors to conduct tests to see how quickly call lights were answered, unit managers/directors were just a lackey for administrators, subpar pay, broken equipment

Nurse Manager/Supervisor/Director

Director, Labor and Delivery and Women's services, bed management

PROS:

Coworkers, work environment, benefits, educational opportunities. Administrative support. Physicians were held accountable for behavior. Part of HCA and leaders of many best practices.

Progressive Care

Great First Experience

PROS:

The teamwork amongst staff is GREAT... BRH does a good job of vetting employees. Other pros include: location, open scheduling

CONS:

Several cons to mention: Ratios, lack of resources, and low pay

Emergency Room (ER)

Co-workers.

CONS:

High patient ratios (5) in ER..... No attempt to check acuity, just assigned beds. Alot of direct bedding without triage first.

Intensive Care (Critical Care, CCU, ICU)

I worked overflow in PACU as an ICU nurse with no supplies critical patients

PROS:

CONS:

Poor team work, Poor moral, poor patient satisfaction, The pay was average, the facility when I worked there, needed a lot of work

Registered Nurse

PROS:

Great place to work. Patients, Coworkers, scheduling, and environment makes it enjoyable. Great salad bar in the cafeteria. Great upper management staff.
