Emergency Room (ER)

Three Stars

3
PROS:

The pediatric ER is not always properly staffed but you quickly become a family with your peers.

CONS:

None

Medical-Surgical (MS, Med-Surg)

Four Stars

4
PROS:

It's very hard to advance up the nursing ladder. I work in the float pool, I enjoy working in different areas. I go to whatever area they're not fully staffed including the ED, I get to meet other nurses throughout the entire hospital and don't have to deal with the same attitudes on a daily basis. The pay is much more but you don't get health benefits, you have to purchase your own. That's why I get paid almost twice as much to compensate having to pay for my own health insurance. I'm not obligated to work holidays, love it !

CONS:

None

I would tell them to do their research before applying. Memorial is in so much debt right now. Staffing is horrible. Patient to nurse ratios are unsafe. Benefits are minimal and raises and bonuses are nonexistent.
