Case Management (CM)

Good

PROS:

Peers are great to work with. A lot of support from staff and from other departments. Staffing is a problem.

CONS:

Management could be better

Medical-Surgical (MS, Med-Surg)

Average

PROS:

Networking, great people to with. RN residency program for new graduate nurses, bridge programs to ICU or ED, and CNAP for nurses to move from RNI toRNII

CONS:

Pay is not the highest unless you are per diem or in the float pool. Professional growth is limited, tuition reimbursement is only $3000 a,semester, for profit hospital, high turn overate of nurses

Ambulatory Care

medical assistant

PROS:

The pay and my co-worker were amazing. I miss that the most. the location was great as well. very easy access to get to

CONS:

none

Emergency Room (ER)

ER/Trauma

PROS:

Fast paced, true Trauma great experience - teaching hospital

CONS:

administration scheduling pay working with teaching residents/attending - some of which are very difficult to deal with Disorganized poor pay

Oncology

RN

PROS:

Pay is competitive, coworkers are supportive. Facility and technology are constantly being upgraded. Patient ratio is fair for the high acuity.

CONS:

Facility

Ambulatory Care

Registered nurse, ACLS certified, BLS, telemetry

PROS:

Facility is state of art, pay, scheduling, employees, they have a great reputation, they also have a graduate nurse program that is awesome for new nurses

CONS:

Na

Intensive Care (Critical Care, CCU, ICU)

RN, BSN IN ADULT ICU

PROS:

Coworkers, icu is not broken down into specialties so you are exposed to everything and anything. It can be extremely overwhelming but I have learned so much.

CONS:

Pay, management. DC is expensive and the pay isn't up to par for the cost of living unless you pick up overtime/bonus

Medical-Surgical (MS, Med-Surg)

Inpatient abdominal transplant

PROS:

Georgetown has a wonderful group of professionals, supportive , Great teamwork, a wonderful overall experience would've been nice to stay longer.

CONS:

Traffic in DC

Postpartum (Perinatal)

Two Stars

PROS:

None

CONS:

Very laid back environment but very high patient load.

Operating Room (OR)

Three Stars

PROS:

It's a decent place, however, they are too focused on turnover time and often, they do not wait for you to interview your patient. They come back whether or not you've checked implants on large cases and it's not always safe, however they do approve of people coming early to work and there is near daily overtime opportunities.

CONS:

None
