Postpartum (Perinatal)

CNA while in Nursing School

PROS:

Loved my coworkers. Working here while in nursing school allowed me to find my passion, which is women's health. I'm now a labor and delivery nurse.

CONS:

Operating Room (OR)

People are friendly and pay is competitive and is a nurse oriented hospital

PROS:

Pay is competitive and there is room for advancement. Is the only 4star hospital in Maryland and has been recertification for magnet. Staff is friendly and has a family environment. Flex schedule

CONS:

Staffing for floors.

Emergency Room (ER)

Four Stars

PROS:

Being at a private catholic hospital has a very different culture than a big public teaching hospital. There is a sense of family and a lot of people stay for their entire career which is not that common elsewhere.

CONS:

None

Interventional Radiology (IR)

Five Stars

PROS:

We are a Magnet designated hospital and Nursing I put is vital to the success of our hospital. We are ranked #3 in our state only behind JHU, Univ of Md. I work with world renowned surgeons, who believe in a multi collabrative approach to care of OUR pt's. We all have a roll, every member of the team is respected for there experience not there level of education because most of us have been nurses for 30 years of experience and that is not taught in a book. in our department we all old CCRN's and ER nurses where experience is a must. I would also tell the new RN that education is promoted and there is tuition assistance and the facility wants you to be the best you can be if that is your journey and path it is encouarged

CONS:

None

Medical-Surgical (MS, Med-Surg)

Four Stars

PROS:

Mercy is a Magnet Recognized institution-serving Baltimore City's finest. Nurses on most MedSurg floors are overwhelmed with 6 nurses & beyond busy all day/night.

CONS:

None

Orthopedics

Five Stars

PROS:

Great place to work Great

CONS:

None

Intensive Care (Critical Care, CCU, ICU)

Four Stars

PROS:

This is a great hospital to start at. We excel at patient satisfaction scores and have been magnet redesignated. When you want something changed, the manager and nurse leadership is open to suggestions. Despite this, you are encouraged to participate actively on your unit or hospital committees and continued clinical ladder advancement. The unit has great team work among staff members even when unit is short staffed. Understand that if you are not needed that day, you will be asked to be on call and use your personal time off. This is to compensate for the hours on call to make up your 36 hour work week. This can happen up to every month more or less.

CONS:

None

Telemetry

Five Stars

PROS:

The people are very friendly. I can not compare the peer support I received here with that of any other hospital. This facility also offers nurses a great platform for career development

CONS:

None
