Neurology ICU (Neuro ICU)Great learning experience
PROS:
You will work hard! They staff to the current census, so if it drops they'll send people home. If the shift starts with empty beds, nurses are cancelled. Which is fine unless you get admissions, because then you end up tripled. And these are the sickest of the sick as far as ICU patients go. Many patients have EVD's, LiCox, Arctic Sun, PiCCO, frequent blood draws (you do your own), multiple pressors.... In other hospitals these patients would be 1:1 but not at Overlook. On the plus side, the unit is run by great docs and NP's (no residents in Neuro ICU although the hospital itself does have residents). You'll learn a lot.
