Medical-Surgical (MS, Med-Surg)

staff are fun to work with

4
PROS:

hours(8-4), location, café food is really, patient cliental , night shift staff are always fun to work with, doctors in surg. are great to work with, surg team communicates well with in shift change.

CONS:

not enough hours, patient ratios, not many postes for postions, hard to build sonority when being on call,

Telemetry

PCU

4
PROS:

The Nurse Manager, Susan, for PCU McClure 5 was phenomenal and backed her staff, permanent and traveler. The whole system (as well as Burlington) is health conscious - for staff, patients and guests including food in the cafeteria and activities.

CONS:

I honestly can't think of any cons for a traveler. The charting program wasn't the best, but they really worked with you to help you do your best.

Case Management (CM)

have worked many years at this facility both F/T and as per diem

4
PROS:

This is a great teaching hospital with many specialty areas. Great location for those who enjoy the outdoors as well as lots of health local foods. There are many great restaurants. Summer is really nice and being on the lake and near mountains there is lots to do outdoors on your days off.

CONS:

Winter is very long in Vermont so this may be a turn off for some. If you like skiing or snowboarding and don't mind the cold that is a plus. City is small so has there is not a lot of big stores, if you are a shopper this might not be the place for you.

Ambulatory Care

RN

4
PROS:

facility is great and coworkers have been awesome, a lot of learning opportunity as it is a teaching hospital. It is also a union which helps in many aspects

CONS:

Sometimes because it is a teaching hospital there is a lot going on as far as different doctors working with patients.

Home Health (Hospice)

Coronary Care

RN on busy cardiology telemetry unit

4
PROS:

Fast paced and exciting...always learning..teaching hospital so can reach someone at any hour without waking attending...good teamwork (mostly)

CONS:

Staffing could have been better as patients became more acute...we didn't utilize nurses aides hardly at all and that would have helped...or a tech

Coronary Care

12 years on busy cardiology/telemetry unit

4
PROS:

Requested and received requested schedule after being there for several years, pay good with incentives for working extra, most co workers friendly and helpful, hospital had good reputation..trauma center..also teaching hospital so you could reach someone day or night without waking attending

CONS:

Staffing could have been better on unit I was on...very acute..fresh MI, post intervention, arrhythmia on many different ivs...diltiazem amiodarone etc. Also did "dobutamine holidays" and in emergency tpa...residents at that time we were almost always on I've heparin and high doses nitroglycerin...we had very few nurses aides...if any one shift which would have helped...some conflict between scheduling dept and floor which was already understaffed..Nurse managers ...frequent turnover..some very good..one in particular horrific..when I left the manager was excellent...the best one I can remember. Of course there was the between shift bickering...which is everywhere

Progressive Care

Great place to work

4
PROS:

Patient ratios are always 1:4 most days, there is always a designated charge nurse who does not have patients, in a great community with many things to do!

CONS:

Scheduling is not always how you want it to go.

Psychiatric (Mental Health)
