Rehabilitation

Rehab isn’t as “easy” as people think it is...

PROS:

Great facility to work. You learn a lot and they’ll pay for you to go back to school. Staff on rehab get along well like a family. You get a chance to know your pt’s because they’re usually on your unit for 1-2 weeks.

CONS:

Census gets low during holidays so you’re floated to other floors alot. Many pt’s are too sick for rehab, so it’s more like med surg rather than rehab. Pt’s receive blood, have drips, IV antibiotics, wound vacs, drains, etc just like med surg floors. One nurse usually has 5-6 pt’s per shift no matter the acuity. The pay needs to be more for the amount of work required.
