Operating Room (OR)

If you are in it for the money and benefits

PROS:

The pay is good even considering the location, the San Francisco Bay Area, one of the most expensive places to live in the country. It also has an awesome pension plan and partnership with Fidelity where you can defer up to 48k a year pretax to help save for retirement or act as a tax shelter. If you work in a unit that offers call, you can easily bring home double your base salary in any given year.

CONS:

Currently, while we are under CNA, it is only a figurehead union and we are currently out of contract. Management rules with an iron fist and plays favorites. Ageism is rampant. It is very difficult for people who are not deemed favorites to advance.
