Three Stars

PROS:

You are just a number. You are replaceable. You will not feel appreciated and they will try to squeeze out as much work as possible from you so they can pay less nurses. They are stubborn and won't give you three 12's.

Intensive Care (Critical Care, CCU, ICU)

Five Stars

PROS:

It's a big corporate environment, with the advantages and disadvantages that normally occur: much bureaucracy, but also good benefits and well-organized nursing supports. My unit - Medical ICU - is large and busy and a great learning environment, if you enjoy trial by fire. We have a good orientation and Nurse Residency program. Many opportunities for continuing education and advancement. Starbucks is open 24/7, but food choices aren't great; pack a lunch.
